It has been exactly one year that i have started flirting with DB2 UDB. Its on the same date last year, when i started working for a big client having been outsourced by my company (MaplesESM Technologies). And this page is more or less the output of my brief stint with DB2 UDB. It has been wonderful throughout, as this is also my first experience in IT industry.
Though i have been trained on DB2UDB for around 4 months in my Company (Maples) back in 2005, this is the day when i got actual work of administering and supporting the databases at the client place. This is the day when i moved to Bangalore and reported for my first day at work. From then i have been working as Database Administrator providing support for the customers.
And on this occasion i am grateful to a lot of people, the list starts with SHILPA madam (HR at hyderabad branch of Maples ) and my Friend RAMAKRISHNA, who are the primary reason for me getting into this job, my current HRManagers Mary & Karthikeyan for their constant support. I am thankful to my guru Mr.Ganapathi Thyagaraju (SME) who guided me in the rightway in the starting days of my work. My Managers Bala Subramanyian and Manoharan Paramasivan for believing in me and being there whenever i needed. I greatly enjoyed the company of all my colleagues who also are my best friends, people like Praveen Gurubelli (for constantly enlightening me on DB2
), Raghava mani (for sharing his knowledge with everyone and making life for people like myself easier), Kuppuraj, Uma, Gowri Manohari, Bhavani, Mamata, Rajendra prasad, Kandar, Shivakumar, Pandian, Senthil, Kamalnath, Prakash (Lion), Kishore, and everyone i have come across in my work place. My sincere thanks for the support given by my current team which has the best cooperation among them, Veena Madam, M.K.Chandra Garu, K.G.Ravindra Garu and Venkat. I am greatful to eachone of them who have directly influenced me.
And I have to mention a Very special Name to whom i am a constant follower, Mr.Chris Eaton. I am very thankful to him for sharing his knowledge on the web, for constantly letting others know the new trends and technologies in DB2 via his ITToolbox Blog . I still follow his SQL scripts which he has published in International Database Users Group (IDUG). Thankyou very much sir. I am greatful to all the Information that is provided by people like Scott Hayes ( www.Database-Brothers.com ) in their Websites, Blogs, and online forums which helped me a lot while handling problems.
Hi Shiva,
I appreciate thoughtfulness. Everyone is always busy with something else but when someone goes out of his/her way to help others, I greatly appreciate that
when someone can be open with their thoughts and feelings, it makes for a much better relationship, no matter what kind of relationship it is. Humor, kindness, curiosity, patience, talent, whimsy, simplicity, spontaneity, sense of wonder and adventure.
Hi,Shiva:
I am a University Student from China. I have seen some of your articles on the internet and know that you are experienced on DB2. I have met a problem these days and looking for solutions everywhere. Nowdays, I am developing a project about Database security testing based on DB2. I need to get the fixpack level of the target Database on the remote host. I know that the command of “db2level” could be used to get that, but it can only be used locally. I have looked for the related materials, and found that after the version of 8.2.2, there is a function called “sysproc.ENV_GET_INST_INFO()” could be used to resolve the problem. But before 8.2.2, I don’t know how to do that. In our project we need to support the old versions of DB2.
I don’t know if I have made myself clearly. Sincerely hope that you could help me. Waiting for your reply by e-mail:). My email address is hu-sr07@mails.tsinghua.edu.cn.
Thank you very much!
